Two Attorneys from Ziegler, Zemsky & Resnick Presenting at Parental Alienation: Where Law Meets Science in 2019

We are pleased to announce that attorneys Steven Resnick and Elizabeth Burke of Ziegler, Zemsky & Resnick will be speaking at Parental Alienation: Where Law Meets Science in 2019. The event will be held at the Wilshire Grand in West Orange on September 28, 2019.

Family law professionals often have to deal with divorcing/divorced parents who constantly argue and make negative and disparaging comments about one another to their children. While some of these comments are the result of stress from the divorce, some parents cross a line where their words and actions cause a child to reject or distrust the other parent.

Behavior such as this I known as “Parental Alienation.” However, the term is controversial in courts and among mental health professionals because the criteria for distinguishing between alienated children and those who have been abused sexually, psychologically mistreated, and/or subjected to harsh or incompetent parenting has yet to be validated by the scientific community.

Presenters at Parental Alienation: Where Law Meets Science in 2019 will discuss the legal implications of the recently decided NYS AD case of JF v. DF and explain the legal criteria for identifying parental alienation based on tort law. Additionally, presenters will be covering the legal, scientific, and clinical issues brought up in JF v. DF.

Attendees will get to hear directly from top practitioners regarding the following topics and more:

  • Scientific and clinical issues related to JF v. DF
  • The criteria for parental alienation according to JF v. DF
  • Legal advice for litigating claims of parental alienation
  • The legal definition of “extreme and outrageous conduct”
  • How to properly use experts to support alienation claims
  • Intensive residential treatment programs
  • Legal issues regarding mandatory intensive residential treatment programs
